Cork University Maternity Hospital Ante Natal Service
The outreach Ante Natal Clinic at Livinghealth Clinic, Mitchelstown sees a collaboration between Cork University Maternity Hospital under the guidance of Prof. John Higgins and Livinghealth Clinic Ireland’s largest independent GP developed advanced Primary Care Centre. The first of its kind in Ireland this outreach service sees a consultant and midwife led Ante Natal Clinic with associated ultrasound scanning and ante natal classes all provided in a primary care setting.
This new innovation follows best international practice and sees women from the surrounding regions of Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford who previously attended Cork University Maternity Hospital for antenatal care. They now attend this advanced Primary Care Centre in their own community for the duration of their pregnancy and attending the Hospital for delivery only.
The service operates one day a week and plans to expand to provide neonatal and gynaecology services shortly. The level of patient satisfaction is extraordinary given that people are getting the very best care in their own community and in co-operation with healthcare professionals they know and trust.
