Dr Declan is a graduate of The Royal College of Surgeons. Dr. Herlihy is actively engaged in the teaching of final year UCC and UL undergraduates. He is also involved in postgraduate teaching in UCC and works in the ASSERT Centre (Application of Science to Simulation – Based Education and Research Training) based in UCC. This method of training aims to reduce medical error / improve patient care by enabling healthcare professionals / and training doctors to engage in the deliberate practice of skills to predefined proficiency standards in a stimulated setting. His special interest in the clinic includes all branches of general practice and has a particular interest in the prevention and management of diabetes and heart disease in the community.  Dr Declan has always had an interest in emergency medicine.
